The Karnataka Driving License project was officially inaugurated on December 3 by the Transport Minister, together with the respective State Commissioners.
Karnataka becomes the first state in India to issue next-generation Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration smart cards, marking a significant advancement in secure identity and document issuance.
How the Karnataka Driving License Project Works
The smart cards are printed and fully personalized using the S7000 system, featuring chip encoding, color dye-sublimation printing on PC cards, and laser engraving, ensuring enhanced security, precision, and operational efficiency.

Part of a National Rollout
At the national level, the Karnataka Driving License project is part of a broader initiative spanning 28 states, rolled out under the guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Karnataka’s leadership in this program positions it as a model for the rest of the country.
Special acknowledgment is given to trusted partner Rosmerta Technologies Limited for its key role in enabling the successful implementation of this milestone.
